Can they detect twins at 9 weeks pregnant?
I just had my 9 week ultrasound and got to see my baby and hear it’s heartbeat. I asked to make sure there was only one and she said yes just one heartbeat, but would you be able to tell at that point or is it still possible that I could have twins? Twins run in my family and I was nervous I might end up having them.
Yes the 9 week scan should be able to detect if you were having twins. There are rare cases where twins have been missed due to one twin being directly behind the other and getting missed but is unlikely. I have twins in my family and this information was taken at my booking appointment (i presume you mentioned it to them) so they would have looked closely. They can see the heartbeat flicking on the ultrasound and will also get a heartbeat rate aswell so if there were 2 they would usually detect it. Sounds like you’ve just got the 1 in there!
