How to get dye stains out of clothes?
I washed a tie dyed dress with the rest of my colored clothing. The dye from the dress left blue stains all over my other clothes.
What are some ways of getting the stains out of the clothes? I tried blotting a cotton ball with hairspray, tried vinegar and lemon juice. Nothing seems to be working.
Please help, I have not dried the clothes yet…
Thanks for not drying the clothes yet- that WILL set the dye in. Go to the store and look for ‘ RIT Dye remover.” Follow the instructions and wash this garment in it by itself.
That’s your best hope of saving it. Now, if the dye remover alters the color of your garment, don’t throw it out. RIT has a lot of dyes that you can use to restore the color to many items. It’s one of the secrets to keeping clothes looking new when they fade.
For future, if you bought the tie-dye dress new, it’s a good idea to wash them seperately. The fashion industry never takes the time to wash out excess dye from fabrics, then this happens. I wish you the best.
