Can I re-dye a silk dress that was ruined when put in Napisan?
I had a blue silk dress that was ruined when a friend put it in napisan to get the stain out and the colour ran. It is now patchy purple (reminds me of tie dyed). I love the dress and want to dye it again. Do I have to strip the colour and then dye it or can I just dye it black? Thanks!
Yes, you’ll still have to strip the color out, or you’ll get uneven results. You may get uneven results anyhow because of the old stain.
Reconsider dyeing it black — it’s one of the hardest colors to obtain good results with at home.
What do you think about going farther towards the tie-dye end of things, where you don’t expect the color to be even? I’ve seen some lovely handpainted silks.
