USElectionNews.org and Politico Forecast Purple Electoral Map In Upcoming Presidential Elections
Based on the website http://uselectionnews.org/, our country’s 2012 election map is changing to purple. This is an absolutely alarming change for each political party, who traditionally turn to particular states for reliable support.
As a matter of fact, using the results of an evaluation of Gallup poll information, authored by the revered news magazine Politico, party connection or alliance within us states that elected Barack Obama in November 2008 have experienced a big move toward the middle and also towards the center right. States who fell into the red or blue, or Republican and Democratic side, in the past presidential cycle right now sway both ways – or wind up appearing purple on any electoral chart, that means all of them seem to be competitive or at least up for grabs in the next US Presidential election coming up in 2012.
In the last Presidential Election, 30 of the 50 states were clearly on the side of the Democrats. But, today, just 13 US states are now solidly Democratic and most of these are in the Northeast sector. On the other hand, in the last Presidential election cycle, a mere one-tenth of states were considered Republican-leaning. Another 5 US States were also considered as being right-leaning. The majority of these red or red-leaning states are in the West and include Wyoming, Utah, Idaho, Alaska, and Kansas.
As for the purple or swing states, there were 8 in the 2010 elections. This expansion has widened the potential of outcomes for both sides of the large field of presidential hopefuls. Now, instead of just having Ohio and Florida as the swing states to campaign in, now, presidential campaigns will have to pay extra special attention to places like Pennsylvania which only one cycle ago were staunchly Democratic. And, as the next twenty or so months that remain between now and voting day 2012, both sides will have to vie not only for the nation’s collective attention, but will also have to pander to the swing-state specific issues that could very well get them elected.
