Which American Girl Doll Should I Get?
I’m going to the American Girl Place soon and I have no idea which doll to get. I already have Just Like You #28 and Julie. I was thinking about getting Emily, Felicity, Lanie, or Rebecca. I also want 2 outfits there. I already have Licorice’s Play Outfit, Sweet Melody Outfit, and the Yoga gear and Outfit. Thanks so much for your help, please answer!!
I see a lot of questions about which American Girl Doll should certain people purchase. I will tell you the same thing that I tell everyone else…examine your interests. The only non historical American Girl on your list is Lanie, so if you don’t want historical, then go with Lanie. If you are into “old fashioned” or a specific country or time period, examine each doll’s time period. It’s also a good idea to look at their available fashions and accessories to see if any of them catch your eye before choosing a doll.
Keep in mind that each of the original American Girl Dolls represents a different time period.
Emily – Emily is English and she’s going to have the old English look to her, think knickers and dress shoes most of the time. Also think about the fact that Emily is from the World War II time period. Emily doesn’t have as many outfits as some of the American Girls because she is a best friends doll. The outfits that are available for Emily are: pajamas, holiday outfit, snowsuit, robe and slippers, and a tap costume. To me, this is a limited selection of outfits for a doll, but remember you can use any of the American Girl Doll clothes on Emily.
Felicity – Felicity is of the American Revolution, think the colonies and old America. Felicity has very specific outfits like a tea lesson gown, riding outfit, gala gown, holiday gown, cardinal cloak, nightshift. Many of Felicity’s clothes are “fancier” than some of the other American Girl Dolls clothes. They look fancy and expensive because of her heritage.
Lanie – Remember that Lanie is the girl of the year doll. When 2010 is over, you won’t be able to get her anymore. If you are trying to “collect them all” then I would definitely get Lanie because you may not have another chance to get her. Keep in mind that Lanie is more modern than the other American Girls, her outfits are similar to what young girls today wear. Lanie is into everything nature related and many of her outfits and accessories reflect that. Lanie’s outfits are very specific to the outdoors like a nature outfit, garden outfit, nightgown with orangutan, butterfly outfit, red tee, green tee, blue tee, and white tee. Lanie’s clothes are more modern, think bright neon colors with graphic tees.
Rebecca – Rebecca is an early 1900′s New Yorker with a Russian-Jewish heritage. Rebecca’s outfits consist of a lot of dresses and skirts like her movie dress, summer outfit, costume chest, school outfit, hannukah dress with accessories, winter coat, pajamas, and robe and slippers. Most of Rebecca’s clothes look like they came from fancy shops in New York.
So, choose what matches your style and personality!
