Assessor macneilli Blue Devilfish $109.99 The Blue Devilfish ( Assessor macneilli , also known as the Blue Assessor) is dark blue all over and has a forked tail. Assessors are perfect for smaller peaceful aquariums. They have a small adult size and are not known to bother other tankmates or invertebrates. Though they may be shy at first and need caves and ledges to retreat to, they will spend more time in the open with time. Assessors can often be seen swimming or hovering upside-down in the water. They are timid and should not be kept with bullying or aggressive tankmates; stressed Assessors have been known to jump from aquarium. Assessors can be fed a variety of meaty foods like brine shrimp, mysis, bits of clam, scallop or squid and other similar items. They will do best in an established systems with healthy microinvertebrate populations that they can graze on. Assessors are fairly disease-resistant if kept in a proper environment with a suitable diet. Visit That Fish Blog for more information from our marine biologists on Assessors and their relatives. |

Boehlkea fredcochui Blue Tetra $1.99 The Blue Tetra has a blue sheen to it’s body that shows up nicely under the right lighting. It’s intensity is also related to the proper water conditions. These fish like water that is slightly acidic and will only look at their best when that type of water is provided. As with other tetras they are a schooling fish and a group of 3 or more is recommended for them. Their diet can consist of flake foods and pellets along with some frozen food such as bloodworms and brine shrimp. Tankmates should be chosen with care and should not contain any that will chase or nip at the fins of the tetras. Some recommendations would be guppies, other tetras, mollies, swordtails and others. |

Methylene Blue – 4 oz. $3.79 Methylene Blue is effective against superficial fungal infections of fishes. The drug may be used as an alternative to Malachite Green for the control of fungus when it is known that the fish to be treated are sensitive. Methylene Blue is safe for use with fish eggs and fry for the prevention of fungal infections. As a secondary use, it is effective against some external protozoans, such as Ich, Chilodonella and Costia. Clinical signs of disease: increased respiration; loss of normal body color; presence of discrete white spots; scratching on tank bottom or on objects; lethargic behavior; white tufts or strands on body; dust like peppered spots on body surface, having a yellowish cast. |

Trichogaster trichopterus Blue Gourami $1.99 The Blue Gourami is one of the most common of the anabantoids (labyrinth fish). This variety has a light metallic blue coloration; the Opaline and Gold gouramis are derived from this wild-type fish. Gouramis have an internal organ called the labyrinth organ that allows them to breathe atmospheric air. This is an adaptation to the rice paddies and stagnant pools in which these fish often live. All gouramis also have the pelvic fins modified into long filaments that they can use to sense their surroundings. Gouramis are bubble nest breeders and the males will build floating nests out of bubbles that the eggs will be deposited in. Breeding is fairly simple. Male fish have the dorsal fin elongated into a point while females are short and rounded. They will accept a large variety of floating pellet and flake foods. As they get larger they can become aggressive particularly to each other. Tank mates should be chosen to able to handle this aggression. They do well with barbs, loaches, large tetras, and semi-aggressive cichlids. |

Blue Mushroom Rock – Small $49.99 Mushrooms are small, round anemones that show many different colors and patterns. Individuals form compact colonies over reef rock which resemble some hard corals. The surface of the polyp can be tightly beaded like a carpet anemone or smooth in appearance. The color of surface can be striped, solid in color, edged with a different color, or have any other number of patterns and variations. The mushrooms range in color from brown to green to blue and in rare cases orange or red. The mushroom rocks sold here are blue in color overall. This color can range from a pale light blue to a more intense royal or purplish blue. The pattern on the individual mushrooms may be of the same color as the base or rarely of a contrasting or different color like green or red. These mushrooms are carnivorous and photosynthetic. While they will take food from the water column and even feed on larger items like brine shrimp, they benefit from higher lighting and will show brighter colors under more intense light. They should be given ample space in aquariums as they may damage other corals with prolonged contact. It is common for an individual mushroom to come off of a rock and settle somewhere else in the aquarium or for a mushroom to split into multiple mushroom to spread or start a new colony. Though mushrooms come in a variety of colors and patterns, they grow in colonies on rocks and therefore there will normally be only one type of mushroom on each rock. The type, size of individual mushrooms and number of mushrooms on the rock may vary. If certain types or colors are desired, please contact the Livestock Department at 1-877-367-4377 for availability. |
