Make Cat Health Care Your Priority
Cat health care is an important factor when it comes to the cleanliness of your pet, so rather than let it get dirty, as the owner you should be taking the responsibility of looking after your cat. Take care of your cat’s fur by grooming it regularly and keeping it clean. Your grooming ritual can begin in many different ways, but it is recommended that you start with brushing to keep the cat’s fur looking good. Hairballs can be a nuisance, so to prevent these be sure to brush the fur regularly to remove any loose hair. There are some cats that find hairballs hard to remove. Hopefully, your cat will be able to remove the hairball quickly and easily, but in some cases a stuck hairball can cause a blockage in the intestinal area. Some blockages can reach danger levels and this could pose a health risk to your pet, so be sure to monitor the severity and get your pet seen by a vet.
When it comes to cat health care, getting the basics right is crucial, so be sure to groom your cat on a daily or weekly basis, depending on the length of the hair. You may notice an odd lump when brushing your cat’s fur, so watch out for these. Always start brushing along the cat’s back and move the comb from the head to the tail to optimise the grooming process. Brush your cat’s coat a couple of times on one side and then do the same for the other so that you get good grooming coverage. You should always brush each area in the direction that the cat’s hair grows.
Some pet owners often make the mistake of brushing the face and paws of their cat, but it is important that you do not do this. Not all cats can tolerate brushing, so that’s why there is a convenient alternative. You might find your cat loves the use of a grooming glove on its fur, which is often a much gentler alternative to using a brush. Help make the grooming process a much smoother one by getting your cat used to it from an early age, be it with the grooming glove or a brush. You may find your cat grows to love being groomed, and many pet owners have seen positive cat health care results from brushing their pets at an early age.
Take time over brushing and grooming your cat so that you can pick up on anything that might not look quite right, such as a poorly paw etc, and it is always worthwhile checking the eyes to ensure they are clear and bright. Hopefully your cat’s eyes will look fine, but as a pet owner you should be able to notice if something isn’t quite right, so check them over to see if he responds to your voice and movement. Check the colour of the inner ears on your cat to ensure they are pink and look perfectly clean, as this will prevent the chance of ear mites. The last thing you want is for your cat to lose its hearing, so be sure to check that ear mites are nowhere to be seen within your cat’s little ears. Ask any pet owner about ear mites and they will no doubt tell you that they can be persistent little creatures and hard to get rid of, so regular cat health checks are essential in the prevention. By performing regular health checks, your pet will stand a better chance of not being subject to ear mites in the future.
It is important to try and delve a little deeper when it comes to grooming your cat, so that you can check out any health issues before they become big problems. Having a cat that remains still during grooming is often hard to find, but if you have a very calm and placid pet then it is always good to reward your cat with a biscuit or suchlike to show him that he has done well. Your cat might struggle when you try and groom him, so if this is the case, let him go and attempt the grooming at a later date. All cats are different, but since many eventually accept (and rather like) the idea of being groomed, you can feel confident that you are doing all you can to keep your cat health care checks going full steam ahead.
