Most people form an instant like or dislike when it comes to websites. It’s almost like the instant connection of a relationship. And the likelihood of that ‘relationship’ lasting is also based on how functional that website is.
In many ways, a website is like a shopfront. A compelling and exciting display will entice people to go into the shop. Conversely, people will be put off by a dull and uninspiring display. Good web design gives the impression of quality – and site visitors are more likely to spend time (and money) on a site that portrays a sense of quality, of substance and of integrity. “Clean, crisp graphics, good quality content with no grammatical errors, easy navigation, fast loading, logical layout, secure e-commerce etc are all aspects of good web design ,” he said. “People associate good design with quality, so whilst your product may not be the best on the market, if your website is better than your competitors…there’s your advantage.”
Many people make the mistake of designing their own websites using existing templates because they want to save money – but the reality is that many – if not most, of those websites cost money in lost sales and lost opportunities over the longer-term.
