FORMAL WEAR FASHION FLOPS FOR MEN (AND HOW TO AVOID THEM!)
Hey guys – the last thing you need when it comes to formal wear is to go backwards instead of putting your best foot forward.
Here’s the first rule – don’t even THINK about wearing your old school formal suit to your best friend’s wedding. We grow up – and we grow out of our old suits Your best bet is to find a formal wear outfitter in your area, or somewhere that does suit hire.
Formal wear isn’t a fancy dress occasion, so leave the outrageous colours behind. Dark colours are best for suits. Single breasted suits will make you look slimmer and if you want to broaden your shoulders – go for a jacket with wider shoulders. Unless you’re Elton John, monotone colours work best for formal wear.
Size does count…even when it comes to fashionable formalwear. Whether you’re a giant or a gnome, making sure your suit AND your shirt fit perfectly is the essential starting point for a fab formal look. When it comes to the big occasions – you’ve got to make sure your formal attire measures up.
Choosing a shirt is also a key component of looking good. Colour is crucial …don’t let it be see-through, make sure it won’t show any sweat marks and remember that shiny isn’t very chic.
Keeping things ‘uniform’ when it comes to formal wear is the way to go. Shoes and belts must match… socks too. And remember, most formal pants will have belt loops for a reason …so don’t forget to buckle up.
The tie’s the limit… don’t let yourself down on this one. With formal suits like the tuxedo, a bow tie can look amazing, but you don’t want to let yourself down with a poor choice of tie. Keep the colouring stylish and simple – and make sure the knot and the length are perfect. The bottom of the tie should hit the top of your belt buckle.
It’s not so easy to get away with a sartorial slip-up at a formal occasion as they are generally events where everyone is noticing…and being noticed !.
