How Plush Toys Have Evolved
These days, children don’t want to wake up on holiday morning to find plush toys under the tree. Stuffed animals, like the beloved teddy bear used to be something that kids loved, even as they grew into teenagers. That’s not the case anymore though. Times have changed and even small children are getting used to interactive toys and video games, making the unanimated plush toys seem rather boring.
This meant that the companies that manufactured plush toys had no choice but to make these toys interactive and animated. You can see that this is what happened when you look at the popular Fur Real Friends Biscuit My Lovin Pup.
During last year’s holiday season, the Biscuit My Lovin Pup was one the biggest selling toys. Parents did whatever they could to find this larger sized, interactive plush toy because they were sure their children would love it. They didn’t mind buying this toy because it offers the same wholesome fun and comfort that their own plush toys gave them during their childhood. These plush toys were the same in that manner, but they included the interactive features that today’s kids are demanding.
Biscuit is an unusual stuffed toy because he actually hears his little human playmates and responds. He will lift his paw when a child needs a shake and will wag his tail and bark on cue. At the end of a play session kids can still cuddle up with him for a bit of TV time or a good nap.
While being a fun example of how technology in the toy department has grown in recent years, Biscuit is also an example of how the market for plush toys has evolved over time. What started out as an active industry for teddy bears many moons ago has now led to an industry of talking and moving pets that children can love in a whole new way.
While many people predicted that the market for plush toys would dry up over the years, it has not done so. Instead, it has changed and expanded in order to keep up with the changing times. The toy manufacturers have been able to deliver what young customers demand. The result is a variety of plush toys that dance, sing, sit, bark, and roam around the house.
These days, you can even find pet dinosaurs that wander around the house, interacting with people they encounter along the way. Once they’re done roaming, they will pick a spot to lie down and take a nap. The technology that’s used for these advanced interactive pets is still in its infancy so the battery life on this dinosaur toy is rather short, but it shows promise of what plush toys will look like in another ten years.
Parents who don’t want to deal with a real puppy chasing through the house, chewing everything up, and turning the carpet into a potty can now purchase the Fur Real Friends Biscuit or the smaller sized pets that make noises and move their heads when their backs are rubbed. Parents with dinosaur loving children can now bring home toy dinosaurs that interact with their children for an hour or so every day.
It’s true that today’s children don’t want to find a teddy bear with their name on it under the holiday tree. Parents have heard their children complain that the teddy bear doesn’t do anything one too many times. Now they look for plush toys that their children can interactive with. The Fur Real Friends Biscuit My Lovin Pup and the traveling dinosaur are big improvements over the unanimated plush toys of the past, but you can rest assured that these toys will continue to evolve.
