College Sports Draw a Greater Level of Fan Devotion
For pretty much any sport there are likely to be a number of die-hard followers. If you have seen videos or photos of fans of soccer in most countries in Europe, you know that there are some teams which have fans happy to go all out for their team on a regular basis. The same goes for many American sports as well. There are many cities where you can find tried and true fans of the local baseball team, football team or basketball team. Even some teams, like the Chicago Cubs, have multitudes of fans that rally behind their team every year whilst they have failed to win a championship in decades.
There isn’t any denying that any sport is likely to have its die-hard fans behind it, but there is something slightly different about the fan base when it comes to college sports. Rather than attaching themselves to a local team for the sake of city pride, college sports fans most often have a much more personal dedication to their teams. Because the most passionate fans are almost all alumni of the school, they have an overwhelming sense of dedication and pride in terms of defending the honor of their school. The closeness they feel to the teams and the players is greater than that of an NFL of NBA fan given that they have a deeper link to the specific institution that those teams are playing.
In addition to their ceaseless pride, college sports fans also have a dedication that has a tendency to cross over into all sports which the college offers. Most alumni will root for any team their college has, whether it is the college football team, the college basketball team or even the college rowing team. No matter whether they actually have an interest in the sport, they still offer their support and passion mainly because they always have faith in their school and in their players.
It is this unique measure of fan dedication that has made college sports so thrilling in America. There aren’t any other sporting events which carry as much of the drama, emotions and personal investment as a match between two rival schools. Fans will find a way to tune in wherever they are in the world purely to find out how their team is doing, whether it is college soccer, college basketball or college football. You can find college sports fans dressed in gear from their alma mater not just on game days but on any day of the year. It is this measure of enthusiasm which makes college sports so terrific to watch and to be a part of. For those who have graduated from a college or university, they know the pride and connection they will always have to those teams all through their lives.
